In a recent conversation with Evan Kirstel on the What’s Up with Tech? podcast, Axio CEO Scott Kannry discussed the intersection of cybersecurity and risk management, highlighting the unique approach Axio brings.
We want to thank Evan for his hospitality and for allowing us to share our vision with his audience!
Here are some highlights from the conversation:
- Scott began by sharing Axio’s origin story, rooted in the combined expertise of his background in cyber insurance and co-founder David White’s deep experience in cybersecurity frameworks. “We effectively met in the middle,” Scott explained, describing how their collaboration addressed the longstanding disconnect between security leaders and risk managers.
- Scott emphasized the evolution of cybersecurity from a purely technical discipline to a core enterprise function, noting, “The world’s only going in one direction, and that is to continually elevate cybersecurity as a core enterprise function.” He outlined how the Axio platform enables organizations to align all key stakeholders around a unified cybersecurity strategy, ensuring that CISOs, CFOs, and boards are all speaking the same language.
- Addressing the challenges faced by critical infrastructure sectors, Scott pointed out the complexities introduced by operational technology (OT). He noted, “Understanding that OT systems can be hacked and manipulated is crucial,” especially in industries like energy and water, where the stakes are incredibly high.
- Scott also shared Axio’s key differentiator: simplicity and clarity in risk quantification. “Our biggest differentiator is the simplicity and understandability of the insights we provide,” he said, adding that this approach has helped many security leaders gain credibility with their boards. He highlighted the importance of empowering these leaders, stating, “It’s about giving them the confidence that if something happens, they’re prepared.”
